Yamaha XSR 155 Review 2026 : Price, Top Speed, Mileage & Why I Am Totally in Love With This Bike!

Yamaha XSR 155 price in India starts at ₹1,49,990! Check real world mileage, top speed, on road price, features and our honest review at Best Bike Guru. Is this the best retro bike under ₹2 lakh?

Okay, I will be honest with you. When Yamaha first announced that XSR 155 is coming to India, I was excited but also a little bit sceptical. Because we have seen so many “retro inspired” bikes launch in India that look great in photos but feel very diss-appointing in real life. So I was kind of prepared to be underwhelmed.

But then I actually saw the XSR 155 in person at the dealership and my jaw literally dropped. And when I took it for a test ride? Oh man I came back smiling like a kid on Christmas morning. I genuinely did not want to give the key back!

So in this review at Best Bike Guru, I am going to give you my most honest and personal take on the Yamaha XSR 155. No corporate fluff, no copy-paste specs just real experience and real opinion. Lets go!

First Impression Love at First Sight?

I remember the exact moment I first saw XSR 155 standing in the showroom under the lights. My first thought was “this doesnt look like a 155cc bike at all.” It look so much bigger, so much more premium and so much more mature than what I expected. The round LED headlight, the slim retro tank, the long seat, the gorgeous exhaust everything just come together so beautifully.

The guy standing next to me at the showroom probably a 55 year old uncle type pointed at it and said yeh toh bilkul purani Yamaha jaisi dikhti hai, but naya lag raha hai.” And that is honestly the best way to describe the XSR 155. It feel like a beautiful old Yamaha from the 1970s that somehow got a complete modern makeover without losing any of its soul.

If you grew up hearing stories about the Yamaha RX100 and RD 350, this bike will give you serious nostalgia vibes. And if you are a younger rider who never experienced those era, XSR 155 will make you wish you had!

What Exactly is Yamaha XSR 155?

For those who dont know Yamaha XSR 155 is a neo-retro roadster motorcycle that was launched in India on November 11, 2025. It is part of Yamaha’s global XSR family which include bigger models like XSR 900 and XSR 700 sold in international markets.

The bike is built around a Japanese philosophy called “on-ko-chi-shin” which basically mean learning from the past to build a better future. Yamaha took the soul and character of their iconic vintage motorcycles and wrapped it around the most modern 155cc mechanicals available the same engine, frame and chassis from the legendary R15 and MT-15.

The result? A motorcycle that look timeless and classic but ride like a proper modern sport bike. Best of both worlds!

Design Okay, This Bike is Just Gorgeous

I know I already talked about the design but honestly it deserve its own dedicated section because the design of XSR 155 is just that good. Let me walk you through each element:

The round LED headlight is the hero of the design. It immediately set the retro tone and give the front of the bike an iconic, almost portrait-like face. The DRL ring around the headlight look stunning at night and make the bike very visible in traffic. I got so many stares on my test ride just because of the headlight people genuinely stop and look!

The fuel tank is slim and elegant with just the right amount of muscular shaping. It has this very clean, un-cluttered look that is becoming very rare in a world where every new bike look like it was designed by a child who had too much imagination and too little restraint.

The tuck-and-roll single piece seat is one of those design details that make you apreciate the effort Yamaha put into this bike. It is a very specific retro style of seat finish that you see on vintage cafe racers and the fact that Yamaha included it on a mass market 155cc bike shows a lot of intension and care in the design process.

The colour options are also very well chosen:

  • Metallic Grey – For the sophisticated rider who dont need to shout
  • Vivid Red – For when you absolutly want to be noticed
  • Greyish Green Metallic – My personal favourite it look like a vintage military machine and is completly unlike anything else on Indian roads
  • Metallic Blue – Classic Yamaha racing blue that pay tribute to the brand’s motorsport heritage

And if the standard colours are not enough for you, Yamaha also offer official Café Racer and Scrambler customisation kits through their dealerships. So you can basically transform your XSR 155 into a personalised cafe racer or dirt-inspired scrambler. I mean how many 155cc bikes let you do that!?

Engine and Performance Familiar but Never Boring

The heart of XSR 155 is its 155cc, liquid-cooled, SOHC, 4-valve, fuel-injected single-cylinder engine with Yamaha’s clever VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology. If you have ever ridden R15 V4 or MT-15, you already know this engine very well. And you already know it is one of the best 155cc engines ever made.

But in case you dont let me explain what make this engine so special.

The engine produce 18.1 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. These are class-leading figures and they make the XSR 155 feel genuinely quick and exciting. The 6-speed gearbox is super slick and each gear shift feel very precise and satisfying.

The VVA technology is the secret sauce here. At low RPM (below 7400 rpm approximately), the engine use a mild valve timing that prioritize smoothness and torque perfect for city traffic where you dont want to be constantly revving hard. Above 7400 rpm, VVA switch to a more aggresive valve timing that unlock more power and give you that addictive surge of acceleration. It is like having two different engine characters in one bike!

The Assist and Slipper Clutch is another feature I have to mention. The assist function make the clutch lever noticeably lighter which is a godsend in heavy city traffic where your left hand is constantly working the clutch. The slipper function prevent rear wheel hop when you downshift aggressively something that is very usefull during sporty riding on twisty roads. Once you ride a bike with slipper clutch, going back to a regular clutch feel like punishment!

Yamaha XSR 155 Top Speed – How Fast Can It Actually Go?

Alright, this is the question that every young rider ask first bhaiya top speed kitni hai?

From our testing and based on feedback from actual XSR 155 owners, the Yamaha XSR 155 top speed is approximately 130 to 135 kmph on a flat road. In ideal conditions with a lighter rider, some owners have reported touching 138-140 kmph on GPS but that is pushing it to the absolute limit.

For real world riding, the XSR 155 is very comfortable and confident cruising at 90 to 100 kmph on highway. At that speed it feel very planted, stable and completely relaxed not at all strained. The Deltabox frame and USD forks play a big role in giving the bike that high-speed stability and confidence.

Now I know some of you will compare this top speed with bigger 200cc or 250cc bikes and say it is not enough. And you are right if top speed is your main priority, XSR 155 is probably not for you. But for someone who use their bike for daily commuting plus occasional weekend highway rides, Yamaha XSR 155 top speed of 130+ kmph is more than adequete and frankly more than enough for legal speeds on Indian roads!

Yamaha XSR 155 Mileage Real World Honest Numbers

Now lets talk about the other number everyone care about Yamaha XSR 155 mileage. And I am going to give you the real numbers here, not just company figures.

ARAI Claimed Mileage: ~46 kmpl

Real World Yamaha XSR 155 Mileage:

  • Pure city riding (heavy traffic): 38 to 42 kmpl
  • Mixed city and highway: 42 to 46 kmpl
  • Pure highway at steady 80-90 kmph: 44 to 48 kmpl

Honestly? I was expecting worse. Given the liquid-cooled high-revving nature of this engine, 40-45 kmpl in real world mixed riding is actually quite decent. On my personal test ride of about 80 km on mixed roads, I averaged around 43 kmpl which I am pretty happy with for a bike of this performance level.

If you are the kind of rider who only care about Yamaha XSR 155 mileage and nothing else, then this is probably not your bike. But if you are okay with spending slightly more on fuel in exchange for an engine that genuinely excite you every time you ride then the mileage is completly acceptable.

Compare this with Royal Enfield Hunter 350 which give only 34-38 kmpl in real world, and XSR 155 suddenly look very fuel efficent!

Yamaha XSR 155 Price in India Is It Worth the Money?

This is the section most of you have been waiting for. Lets talk money!

Yamaha XSR 155 Price in India (Ex-Showroom): ₹1,49,990

Yes, you read that right. One lakh forty nine thousand nine hundred and ninety rupees. And Yamaha launched this at an introductory price which is valid only till February 2026 after which price is expected to increase.

Now let me put this price in context. For ₹1.50 lakh you are getting:

  • A liquid-cooled VVA engine (same as R15!)
  • Deltabox frame
  • USD front forks
  • Assist and Slipper Clutch
  • Dual Channel ABS
  • Full LED lighting
  • Café Racer / Scrambler customisation option
  • A design that genuinely turn heads everywhere

When I look at that list and then look at the price, I genuinely think Yamaha XSR 155 price in India is one of the best value propositions in the current 155-200cc motorcycle market. Yamaha has clearly made this bike very aggressively priced to capture the market quickly and build a strong customer base. Smart move Yamaha!

One thing I do want to flag though there is only one variant of XSR 155 available right now. So no choices in terms of variant. You get everything in one package or nothing. For most buyers this is actually fine but some people may prefer to have a lower-priced base variant option.

The on road price of around ₹1.70 to ₹1.77 lakh honestly seem very reasonable when you think about what you are getting. I know it is not cheap but for the features, brand value and sheer riding pleasure this bike deliver, I believe it is absolutely worth every rupee.

Handling and Ride Quality Better Than I Expected

I was expacting the XSR 155 to handle well given its R15-based underpinnings, but it actually handle even better than I thought it would. The Deltabox frame provide incredible chassis rigidity and the USD forks deliver very sharp and precise steering. The bike change direction quickly and confidently it feel very nimble and eager in corners.

What suprised me the most is how comfortable it is for everyday city riding despite its sporty chassis setup. The upright riding position (much more relaxed than R15 or MT-15) mean your wrists and back dont suffer during long time in traffic. It is genuinely more comfortable then I expected from a bike with this kind of sporty DNA.

The rear monoshock is preload adjustable and absorb city road imperfections pretty well. It is not magic carpet smooth you will feel bigger potholes but it is certainly not harsh or uncomfortable. For Indian city roads, the ride quality is completly acceptable and actually better then many bikes in this price range.

Look, I have ridden a lot of bikes over the years. And every once in a while a bike come along that just feel special not because of one standout feature but because of how everything come together as a whole. Yamaha XSR 155 is one of those bikes.

It is not the fastest 155cc bike. It is not the most fuel efficent. It does not have the biggest engine. But it has something that very few bikes in any price range manage to achieve it has character. Real, genuine, put-a-smile-on-your-face character that make every single ride feel like a little event.

Whether you are riding to office at 7am or exploring a mountain road on Sunday, the XSR 155 always feel engaged, alive and excited to be ridden. And that quality is incredibly rare and incredibly precious in any motorcycle.
